Call for Submissions: Women's Series 2026

Soapbox Stageworks is now accepting submissions for our Spring Women’s Series! We are celebrating women by showcasing plays written by women and about women. We are seeking unique, compelling works that center on:

  • Historical women

  • Women who have made a difference (they do not need to be famous—obscure stories are encouraged!)

Submission Guidelines:

  • Plays must be written by women

  • Plays must focus on women

  • No sci-fi

  • No musicals

  • No simple romances

  • No stories that portray women solely as victims of a love gone bad

Submission Deadline: February 15
Submission Fee: $15.00
Payment accepted via Zelle or PayPal to soapboxstageworks@gmail.com

Performance Dates: Late March – Early April

Call for Submissions: Central Coast Solo Festival

Soapbox Stageworks is thrilled to announce a call for submissions for the Premiere Central Coast Solo Festival, taking place in September 2026 at the historic Stanton Theatre in Portola Plaza, Monterey.

This exciting new festival celebrates bold, original solo performances and is the first of its kind on California’s Central Coast. We invite playwrights and performers to submit compelling one-person works for consideration.

Submission Guidelines

• Solo plays must be no longer than 60 minutes in performance length.
• Submissions must include:
 – Full script
 – Playwright/performer biography
 – Synopsis
 – Optional: videos and/or production photos
• A $25 submission fee is required.
Deadline: June 15, 2026 (extended deadline).

Festival Details

Selected solo works will be performed at the Stanton Theatre in Monterey.

• Playwrights/performers selected for the festival are responsible for an additional $150 production fee.
• Soapbox Stageworks will provide the theatre, marketing, and basic technical support.
• Additional technical support is available for a $50 fee.
• All performers must arrive fully prepared to perform; Soapbox Stageworks does not provide directing, rehearsal support, or artistic development services.

Soapbox Stageworks provides a sandbox for international, US, and local Playwrights to premiere theatrical work in collaboration with ‘Creatives’ from the Monterey Peninsula to exhibit truly dynamic theatre. 

Culminating into distinct and provocative theatre experiences, Soapbox Stageworks produces the final material for performance with local and guest talent.  We have created a world-class sustainable theatre that welcomes every corner of our community and invites all facets of collaboration.
